KGGO/KDWZ Transmitter Fire
KGGO (94.9) and KDWZ (93.3) shared the same transmitter site in Altoona from the mid 1980's until present. Stoner Broadcasting, owner of KGGO, owned the site with KDWZ as a tenant. A lightning strike caused a fire at the dual site, forcing both stations to operate at reduced power from backup sites for a couple months. KGGO's backup was at the KSO site at 3900 NE Broadway. KDWZ's backup was at the KIOA/KDWZ studio in Pleasant Hill.
Effective late 2002, Saga Communications, owner of 93.3 KIOA, has purchased the Altoona site. KGGO is still on the tower as a tenant.
