KDWZ 93.3 Morning Thing - Summer 1989
Maxwell and Polly
Maxwell and Polly, Maxwell Shaeffer and Polly Carver-Kimm worked together becoming the successful morning team on KIOA, but they worked together much earlier, in 1989. In fact, it was even on 93.3 in Des Moines. At that time the call letters of 93.3 were KDWZ and the format was Top-40 or CHR, Contemporary Hits Radio. This morning show aircheck comes from the summer of 1989, at Fair time. Besides Maxwell and Polly, Dave-O's voice is heard.
About a year after this aircheck, the KWDZ call letters were replaced by KIOA-FM and the programming changed to simulcasting KIOA 940 with its Oldies format. The KDWZ staff was let go, including Maxwell. Just before leaving town, Maxwell was asked to stay and join the KIOA staff. Polly remained in the news department.
