Art Jones
1941 - 2015

Art Jones, 73, radio personality and North Texas newspaper publisher, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015, after an eight-year battle with breast cancer. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at Biggers Funeral Chapel. Leonard Arthur "Art" Jones Jr. was born September 15, 1941, in Freeport, N.Y., and the family moved to Uvalde, Texas, when he was 5. A true Texan at heart, he always said, "I got here as soon as I could." Art was graduated from high school in 1958. Art began his radio career at KCLE in Cleburne in 1959 and stayed in the broadcasting business for more than 20 years. He was a well-known radio personality at KIOA radio in Des Moines, Iowa, and KCMO radio in Kansas City, Mo. He returned to Texas in 1977 as creative director for KFJZ radio in Fort Worth and later started his own business, HTM Productions. His company produced commercials for radio, television and commercial audiovisuals and he wrote a trade journal for the International Mobile Air Conditioning Association (IMACA). At age 60, he bought and published the Northwest Tarrant County Times Record until his retirement in 2009. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard A. Jones Sr. and Martha Smith Jones, and daughter, Leslie Jones. Survivors: At the family home - his best friend and beloved wife of 39 years, Joan, and four grandchildren - Micah, Tyler, Megan and Nolan; son, Leonard Arthur Jones III and wife, Marie; daughter, Terrice Jones and husband, William; brother, Harry Jones and wife, Carole; nine additional grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
